La Bella Pearl Restaurant

A Taste of the Mediterranean and Fine Dining in the Mountains of Middle Tennessee

by Jeff Richmond

I was invited to join a group at La Bella Pearl for a working lunch. Impressed with the meal and what might be called a “comfortable continental atmosphere,” I made plans to return with my wife for dinner the next week.

We had planned an early Saturday dinner. We were greeted and seated promptly.

We opted for the full experience—appetizers before dinner—and were not disappointed. The challenge is selecting from a menu of appetizers, each with a unique Mediterranean connection. Knowing that they would be shared, we agreed on the “Le Mediterranean,” (antipasti with prosciutto complemented with gorgonzola and feta cheese, accented with roasted peppers and olives), and the “Lombardy” (ricotta filled tortellini in an alfredo sauce with sundried tomatoes and chicken).

As anticipated, we found ourselves sharing: “You have to have a taste of this,” I said.

For our entrees, we had options that included seafood (red snapper, salmon), chicken, duck, lamb, beef, and vegetarian dishes. Chef Cynthia said they pride themselves in always using the freshest ingredients for all their dishes.

I selected the Vegetarian Moussaka, a combination of roasted eggplant and other vegetables, in a casserole flavored with Kasseri Cheese and Pesto Crostini. It was both delicious and satisfying. My wife selected the “Salmon la Mer,” wild caught salmon combined with cheesy crab filling and a lobster sauce. It too, was delicious. She was reluctant to share!

La Bella Pearl is the creation of Cynthia Kruger and Tom Anderson who are both chefs and the owners.

When asked about how she would describe the style of cooking at La Bella Pearl, chef Cynthia Kruger responded immediately, “Mediterranean.”

They also have a lunch menu of more modestly priced offerings including appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches (the “Acropolis Wrap” is excellent), and specials for those with a hardy mid-day appetite.

La Bella Pearl offers both interior dinning in a comfortably elegant dining room or al fresco patio dining.

The next time you are looking for something a little different from the every-day barbecue or meat and potatoes, for either a mid-day casual lunch or a special night out, try La Bella Pearl.
